Bell Set

The Bell Set - Glockenspiel is an essential learning tool in any Montessori environment, whether at home or in school. This beautifully crafted set consists of 13 pairs of handmade bells that together form the chromatic scale starting at 'c' (do). Each bell is meticulously finished: one bell in each pair is either black or white, like on a piano keyboard, while the other bell is natural wood. This allows children not only to familiarize themselves with the basics of music but also to refine their hearing and develop their auditory memory.

Learning music is similar to learning a language and is an indispensable part of the Montessori curriculum. The bell set offers children the opportunity to express themselves musically while also mastering the associated musical terminology. Music has its own sounds, symbols, and precise terminology, which are just as important as words in a language.

A popular exercise with this bell set is tone matching. Here, the white bells are arranged in the correct order of an octave. The child then selects a wooden-colored bell, strikes it, and tries to find the matching white bell by ear. This process sharpens the child’s hearing and helps develop a strong sense of order and sequence.

Additionally, the glockenspiel allows for free musical play. Children can experiment with sounds and rhythms, contributing to their creative development. For an organized setup, specially designed "Boards with black and white fields" are available, on which the positions of the bells are clearly marked.

The Bell Set - Glockenspiel is more than just an instrument; it’s a valuable tool for the overall musical and cognitive development of the child. This set includes 26 bells on solid wooden bases, 2 natural wood mallets, and 1 black lacquered wooden damper. The bells themselves have a diameter of approximately 7 cm, while the wooden bases measure 10 x 8 cm. The mallets are approximately 23 cm long, and the damper is 19 cm long.
